At 3:02 PM, the Downingtown Fire Dept., along with mutual aid from Rescue 38 (Thorndale Fire Co.), Engine and Tanker 39 (West Bradford Fire Co.), Engine 49-5 (East Brandywine Fire Co.), Ladder 6 (West Whiteland Fire Co.) and Engine 51-2 (First West Chester Fire Co.) as RIT, were dispatched to a house fire in the 100 block of Brandywine Ave., in the Borough.
Chief 45 (J. Law) arrived on location to find smoke showing from the first and second floors of the rear of one side of the half-a-double. The crew from Tower 45 placed a ground ladder to the rear of the house, then went in with the Rescue 38 crew to do a search, while the Engine 46-1 crew secured a water source from the nearby hydrant and advanced a hand-line inside for the fire attack.
The crews from Engine and Rescue 45, along with the mutual aid companies placed ground ladders, advanced a back-up line and ventilated.
