Congratulations to the following Downingtown Fire Dept. volunteers for completing the training requirements for the course of Water Rescue and Emergency Response, in accordance with the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission certification.
Our ten new newer members of the department are now qualified and able to respond to water rescues with the Downingtown Fire Dept. Water Rescue Team at the Operations Level. This is the first level of several water rescue training’s that our volunteers will be taking over the next few years to qualify as Water Rescue Technicians.
This 16-hour course was hosted by the Downingtown Fire Dept. and it included many valuable swift water rescue techniques. The course provides the base on which all other PA Fish and Boat Commission courses are built. Using both classroom, indoor pool (at Tel Hai Retirement Community, Honey Brook, PA) and practical hands-on training at Kelly’s Lock in Reading, PA; WRER covers planning, medical considerations, rescue equipment, self-rescue and shore-based rescue techniques. This course meets or exceeds NFPA 1670, Operations Level Guidelines.
Good luck, congratulations and welcome to our team!
Thanks to Todd Stahl and the instructors from WhiteCap Water Rescue Training, LLC for conducting another great class.
