At 1:27 PM, the Downingtown Fire Dept., with the first alarm assignment, of E-47-2 and E-47-5 (Lionville Fire Company), E-38 (Thorndale Fire Company) and E-51-2 (First West Chester Fire Company) for RIT were dispatched to a building fire at the Woodmont North Apartments, East Caln, Twp.
Chief 45 arrived to find heavy smoke from a third floor window and the eaves of one of the apartment buildings. The assignment was upgraded to a second alarm, for additional manpower, adding Tower 47 and Station 49 (East Brandywine Fire Company).
Tower 45 arrived and the crew set-up the ladder tower to the roof for ventilation and checking for fire extension. Engine 46-1 laid a 5″ supply line from a fire hydrant, then advanced an 1.75″ handline to the third floor, for fire attack. Engine 45 boosted the hydrant for Engine 46-1 and the crew assisted the crew from Engine 47-2 with placing all 243′ of ground ladders from Tower 45 around the building. Then all of the crews assisted with checking for fire extension, with an extended salvage and overhaul in the attic space and third floor of the building.
